Swimming Requirement
If you are under 21 and want to sail, you must take the Small Boat Swim Test at the “Z” Center Pool.
Test includes:
- Swim 100 yards (4 lengths of the pool)
- Tread water for 5 minutes
After passing:
- The lifeguard will give you a certificate to submit to Sailing Pavilion staff.
- Bring your MIT ID, as the lifeguard may ask for identification.
MITNA Account Agreement for Sailing Card
When creating your MITNA account, you must agree to the following:
- I am 21 or older and can swim 100 meters and tread water for 5 minutes without help.
- Staff may ask for proof of age before issuing your sailing card.
- I have taken and passed the MIT “Boating Test.”
- You must bring proof of passing before receiving your sailing card.
- I am under 18 and will have a parent or guardian initial the account.
- The parent or guardian must be present at the Pavilion when getting the sailing card.
- I will always wear a personal flotation device when aboard an MIT boat.
