Charles River Open Team Race
The Charles River Open (CRO) Team Race is an annual sailing regatta hosted at MIT and serves as a qualifier for the prestigious Hinman Trophy, which is the US Team Racing Championship. The CRO employs a unique “Swiss League” scoring format to ensure close and competitive racing among participating teams. Taking place over two days, the event features races using both FJ’s and 420’s boats. The competition kicks off with an initial seeding round that divides teams into divisions based on their skills and performance. Subsequently, teams partake in multiple round robins within their divisions, re-seeding the divisions after each rotation. At the end of the regatta, the team with the highest total points emerges victorious. In some instances, based on scores, the event’s Organizing Authority may arrange semi-final and final sail-offs to determine the overall winner.
