X Dimension trip to Boston Light (Saturday)

Sat 24-Aug-201309:30-17:00
Registration End:23-August-2013 at midnight

Description

X Dimension will be going on its annual tour of Boston Light — the first lighthouse site in North America, and the only one left in the country to retain an official keeper. We will tour the lighthouse tower and see the inside of the French-made second-order Fresnel lens that produces the lighthouse's beam throughout Boston harbor, day and night. If lucky, we will also see the photo album in which 19th-century MIT students worked to produce a better fog signal by trying to understand the dynamics of sound as it propagates over the foggy Massachusetts Bay. (They failed.)

Please read the directions and the FAQ before signing up. Preference will be given to those with the Bluewater Crew rating, those with the Provisional rating, and those who have helped with maintenance of the boat. You will need an active sailing card to participate in this trip. The trip is subject to engine maintenance during the week and may be cancelled if work is unsuccessful.

Please be on the pier at the Boston Waterboat Marina by 9:30 a.m. We will tour the lighthouse from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. and be back in Boston by 5 p.m. at the latest.
