Special Supply Chain Management 1-2-3 Sailing Event

You should plan to be available Mon-Tues-Wed from about 5:30-7:30 pm.

 

Class 1: Classroom lecture, tour, and on-the-dock demonstration (with knots and rigging practice).

This is the first in a series of three Learn-to-Sail classes presented on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday evening.

Requirements

Before the class

We recommend that you watch the Tech Dinghy rigging and sailing videos. They are a lot of fun and will serve as a great introduction to sailing. Also, find a piece of rope and practice the Stunsail Tack Bend and Bowline knots.

Description

In Class 1, we will cover the following :

 

Class 2: On the Dock Demonstration and Sailing

Second in a series of three Learn-to-Sail classes presented on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday evening.

Before the class

Review your handouts from Class 1. Also can review the basic Tech Dinghy sailing videos.

Description

Students will be paired up, two to a boat. Everyone will rig their boat and make ready to sail. Your instructor will explain your sailing course and will review proper sailing technique. He or she will demonstrate launching and landing at the dock and basic sailing maneuvers. Participants will launch their boats one at at time, sail to the mark, tack around it, and then sail back to the dock to land. Instructors on the dock will assist with launching and landing and an instructor in a motorboat will assist you on the water.

 

Class 3: Additional Sailing Instruction and Practice

Third in a series of three Learn-to-Sail classes presented on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday evening.

Description

Students will go out alone or be paired up, two to a boat. Everyone will rig a boat and make ready to sail. Your instructor will explain your sailing course and will review proper sailing technique. He or she will demonstrate additional concepts including gybing, using the tiller extension, working upwind and downwind. Instructors will assist mainly from a motorboat while you are on the water.
