Description

Class will meet rain or shine.  Sign in on the sign-in sheet on the front counter.  There's no need to sign up in advance.  Boats are first come, first served so arrive early enough to claim a boat.

Full sail is always recommended.  I hope to teach you the techniques so that you can push yourself to the next level. 

Class 1: 

• Introduce self
• Class structure
  • partially rigged, sailing card up, sign-in
  • talk for ~15-20 minutes
  • Start racing 
  • available for a few questions at the end
• Three minute start
• Modified triangle race course
• Setting up boat the right way
• Run a few races

Class 2:

• recap
• Tell-tales
  • shroud tell-tales for downwind sailing
  • sail tell-tales for perfecting sail trim
• Headers/ Lifts
  • tack when headed to sail lifted
• Are you sailing towards the mark?
• Run a few races

Class 3:

• Roll tacks
  • look before you tack
  • sailing from close-hauled to close-hauled
  • be sure to straighten tiller before flattening!
  • flatten to mast vertical

Class 4:

• Normal Tech Dinghy race course
• Downwind sailing
  • JC strap
  • use shroud tell tales to figure out what tack you should be on
    • okay to sail by the lee
  • point directly at the mark
    • sail all the way out, boom against shroud, use preventer to lock it there so boom doesn't collapse towards you
  • windward heel to get sail up high
  • centerboard up to reduce drag
    • only feasible if no boats nearby!

Class 5:

• Starts
  • favored end of the line
  • accelerate before go so you start the race going full speed
    • only takes 10 seconds or 1 roll tack to bring Tech Dinghy to full speed

Class 6:

• More Starts
  • Line sights
  • Checking for favored end of the line

Class 7:

• Tactics!
  • Wind shadows
    • avoid disturbed air coming off boats ahead of you
  • Mark roundings
    • wide, then tight 
  • Lanes
    • sail in clean air as often as possible

Class 8:

• Novice Regatta!
