Description

Meet in 66-144

This interactive two-hour session will review key concepts you learned during the course with a focus on practical ways to keep yourself and crewmates safe, so you can focus on cruising, racing or just having fun afloat. We’ll cover —

• Five things to do before getting underway

• Avoiding the two biggest mistakes to prevent drowning

• Safety tips for six main aspects of boat operations.

• “Safety at Sea” — differences between inshore sailing on the Charles vs coastal waters that will help keep you safe

• Two watch words to live by and a “two” word rule to mitigate mishaps

• The three most common categories of boating emergencies and what to do

• Of dinghies & ditch bags - or life rafts (if all else fails, you can take it with you)

• And lastly a word from our sponsors (MIT & USCG): courtesy and legal obligations for safe boating
