NOTE: Class limit 8 people, pre-registration is mandatory, you must be a MITNA member!

Windsurfing in the Charles

The class will be about three hours long and concentrate on rigging a windsurf and general rig handling.

You must have a swim rating or must have taken a learn to sail class in order to sign up.

When learning to windsurf it is very useful to understand the basic ideas behind sailing. Please be fully proficient with the following terms:

The class will start at 4pm with the rigging and general board handling demo. As much as possible the students will go out on a board. We have four boards available for the class, so we may have to "share" the boards during the class.

If the class gets filled beyond capacity, please continue to register for the class. Those who we can't accomodate in this class will be given priority for the next. This serves as a pseudo-waitlist and gives us an idea of how to space out classes.

NOTE : If wind/weather conditions are not favorable, this event may get postponed.

Please bring comfortable swim wear and a towel. If you have a wetsuit, you may want to bring that along.

For more information, visit http://sailing.mit.edu/windsurfing/

If you already know how to windsurf and would like to learn how to rig and use the equipment at the MIT sailing pavilion, please show up to the first part of this class where we demo rigging of the sails. In this case, you don't have to sign up for the class or register. Just show up.

By the end of the class, if you manage to go across the river, turn and return without drifting too far downwind, then you qualify for the board sailing raiting at the pavilion which means that you can take a windsurfing rig out during really windy days. If you manage this during the class, then it is up to you to first inform one of the insturctors that you have performed this feat (if we don't see you do this). Upon approval, it is up to you to email one of the even organizers to request the rating be given to you (it otherwise gets hard to keep track of giving out ratings).
