Description

MIT's Arey's Pond open Lynx catboat

Description

In May, MIT received its traditional Cape Cod catboat -- a 16-foot open Lynx from Arey's Pond Boat Yard, with more on the way. The Lynx is beatiful, and simple to rig and sail, but takes some getting used to -- especially since it's the only gaff-rigged boat at MIT. (Gaff-rigged means it has a four-sided sail, held on the top by a pole called the "gaff.") It's a great party boat -- it can hold eight adults and is self-bailing, and has built-in lights for the Moonlight Sails and a hinged mast for going in the harbor.

This class will teach you the basics of how to get started sailing on the Lynx. The class is taught on the boat, so be ready to sail. You will learn:

Requirements

A provisional rating is required to sail the Lynx, so please get the provisional rating before taking this class.

Pre-register above if possible, but we may have room for walk-ins. We will do more classes if this one is successful.
