Description

The Chapman Bowl is an overnight race starting and ending off Scituate Harbor.  The race starts at 7:00 PM Friday, July 9, 2010.     Nevermore's racing class will be assigned one of the shorter of the several courses that range between 50 and 100 miles, all of them located in Cape Cod Bay and Mass. Bay.  We have previously finished the next  morning (Saturday), some time after dawn to around noon.

This Event Entry is provisional (as of 29May10.)   We expect to organize crew in the latter part of June.  Crew will be chosen after we have observed the mix of experience and backgrounds of people signing up.  We try to include a mix of less-experienced sailors along with more experienced racers; emphasis is on having a crew that can sail safely at night and can get good performance from Nevermore, and on less-experienced sailors who are ready for some new experience.  ... And on having fun!

Signing up for the Event will let you get emails later about the specific selection and sailing plans.  There'll most likely be a practice and crew-melding sail about a week before the race; this is usually done in the evening.

Obviously, sailing experience should include familiarity with Nevermore, and experience sailing the pavilion's boats, and status of checkouts,  is helpful.

The Notice of Race is available at URL   http://www.massbaysailing.org/uploaded_files/2010_mbsa_book_april_21_242lsI.pdf     . Note that this version was published earlier in 2010, and may get changed.

This sail will actually start late morning Friday, to get to Scituate in time to meet the race people at the yacht club.  And there's a several hour return sail after the race; it is most likely that we'll be back in Boston late PM.  We don't know of any good public transportation from Boston to Scituate, so most people will have to stay with the boat the whole time.

You may be asked to contribute $10.00 to $15.00 toward expenses and race application fees.   This request is NOT an official MIT Event Entry Fee.
